Different Energy Sources

Different energy sources provide us with the power we need to live and work. These include wind, solar and geothermal as well as biomass sources. In addition to being a major source of electricity, these sources can also be used for heat and transport. These energy sources emit greenhouse gases when burned to generate electricity. This is why there is a need for more environmentally sustainable energy sources.

Fossil fuels are the most common form of energy. They include coal, oil and natural gas. They were leonardogiombini.it formed thousands of years ago, when prehistoric animals and plants died and were buried under layers of sedimentary rocks. When the conditions were right these fossil fuels slowly transformed into carbon-rich materials which, when ignited create energy. They are not renewable because they will run out in our lifetimes or even in many lives.

Renewable energy sources however are constantly replenished. The most important renewable energy source is sunlight, which gives heat and light. We use it to power our homes and businesses, as well as to drive cars. Wind is a different renewable energy source that generates electricity by spinning turbines. Since the first time people realized how to harness wind we have been utilizing it for millennia. We also use biological processes to create alcohol (a clear alcohol that can be used as a fuel) from waste and crop residues.

Of all these sources hydropower is the most significant renewable energy source in the United States, though wind and biofuels are predicted to take the lead soon. Hydropower uses the natural water cycle to harness water’s swift flow, which in turn produces electricity.
